We decided to take some pictures of interesting sights on our outing to the mall a couple of weeks ago.
One thing that we've found interesting/frustrating here is that it's nearly impossible to find places by addresses. No one knows street names because either they don't have names or signs, or the street names are names like, "King Saud Bin Abdulaziz Rd."
Which is pretty close to "King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz St."But not the same nor in even relatively the same area. Everyone just sort of describes how to get somewhere by landmarks or stores you pass on the way, or they use a GPS.
We like to share the road here in Saudi. Sometimes we drive for perhaps a mile down the road straddling the lane lines and taking up two lanes because we're talking on the phone, or perhaps we're talking to our friend in the car next to us who is straddling the other lane line, blocking all 3 lanes of traffic so they can have a little conversation in the middle of the street.
How many ways are there to drive on a one-lane exit ramp?
There are at least three that I can think of.
Apparently the Al Rashid Mall also enforces the honor code...or something very close to it.
We spent the morning riding some rides at the mall and then met a bunch of friends for lunch. It was an inexpensive, good time.
Magic carpet ride, anyone?
Hippo bumper cars?
This one might be my favorite.
The under the sea themed emergency vehicle train. Hmmm. There were no fires or accidents under the sea that day, for sure.
Love this American scooter. And so did Finn.
And the Manhattan ride is hilarious as well.
The Chrysler building in the middle.
And the vehicles circling the Chrysler building are turtles, sunshines, and panda bears. Of course. The Manhattan ride. That makes perfect sense.
A real danger to be sure. It has yet to happen to me, but I certainly heed the warning. It would be no bueno to have your abaya stripped off of you because it's caught in the escalator.
Our favorite sign of the day, "Al-Four Tea for Sliming." Not slimming, mind you, but sliming. Who doesn't want a nice sliming tea? That sounds delectable! Sign me up!

Wow Kim! I had no idea you guys had moved to the middle east! You are very brave! I just moved back to America after living in the UK for four years and I LOVED living abroad. But that being said, it was a difficult, "stretchy" time too. I had a baby overseas as well, but I have a feeling that all of my experiences are very different from yours! If I could feel a huge culture shock in going from the U.S. to England (speaking English), I can't even imagine what you are experiencing! It's fun to read about your adventures and your congrats on your twin girls!!!
